ART TALK

with Hutchinson Community College

February 12th at 6:00 PM

Have you ever wondered how news got around during the Renaissance? Did they draw or paint all those pictures by hand like Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel?

The Northern Renaissance brought about the first books published with movable type rather than laboriously handwritten texts. An innovation that made mass-market paperbacks possible hundreds of years later. What would libraries be without the invention of the printing press? We can hardly stand to think about it!

We have a lot of questions about the origins of print and printmaking, we bet you do too!. So we asked Hutchinson Community College to come back and talk about it!  Professor Kim Ivancovich will lead the discussion as we dive into the earliest days of printmaking and early technological invention. During the program, you’ll get to experience printmaking yourself with a hands-on guided art project!

Please RSVP to get reminders closer to the date. Let us know you plan to be there so we can estimate what supplies we’ll need. Thank you for supporting library programs and the Hutchinson Community College with your attendance!

Book Clubs

”That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you’re not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

Reading on your own is great. But talking about it with others? That’s where the magic happens.

Something incredible happens when we share stories and ideas together. We learn that we aren’t alone in our thoughts or feelings. We also learn to explore new perspectives and ideas differing from our own through sharing our experiences.

Everyone belongs in a book club. You are welcome whether you finished the book or not. Your voice belongs in the conversation about stories and new ideas.

Joining a book club at the library is easy. Just ask at the Public Service desk.

There are currently five book clubs.

  • Salt City Readers
    • Adult Fiction
  • For the Record
    • 33 1/3 Books
    • Music
  • Strange New Words
    • Science Fiction
    • Fantasy
  • Mystery Mavens
    • Mystery
    • Thriller
  • Is the Book Always Better?
    • Fiction
    • Movie Adaptations

Email us to be added to a specific book club list for updates and reminders each month.

Each book club focuses on a different literary theme or genre. Attend as many as you want! Book clubs are great for enhancing your critical thinking skills, expanding your social circle, and adding variety to your reading habits.
