The Library will be starting a major basement remodel on February 1st, 2026. This remodel will expand the Makerspace and diversify the services they can offer. In the future, you can expect larger-scale CNC milling, laser cutting, a paint booth, and many other improvements to the Makerspace! The remodel will also update staff office areas to fit current workflows much better.

What we’re doing

We’re moving everything out of our basement in preparation for the beginning of the remodel. We have about 15 staff that usually work in the basement, doing much of the behind-the-scenes work to make the library run smoothly. They will be displaced throughout the building during this time. From workspaces to library materials to decades of furniture, everything needs to move upstairs!

What’s closed or changed

Closures

  • Kansas Room: This room is being used as reference and interlibrary loan workspace. It will remain closed for the duration of the remodel.
  • Meeting room 1: This room is being used as IT and maintenance staff’s workspace, supply storage, and staff breakroom. It will remain closed for the duration of the remodel.

Changes

  • Kansas Room materials are now available by request at the Reference Desk.
  • Makerspace: There will be a temporary, smaller Makerspace set up in meeting room 2 for the duration of the remodel.
  • Meeting room 2 will be unavailable for reservations since it’s the location of the temporary Makerspace.

How you can participate

  • Visit our new temporary Makerspace starting on January 14th. Please be patient with the smaller space and limited services while we wait excitedly for our new and improved space!
  • Construction fencing and noise: Be prepared to see and hear a lot of construction activity at the library for the upcoming months! While we and the construction team will work hard to not disrupt your time at the library, there will be inevitable noise and inconveniences.
  • Parking and entrance access: While both entrances will remain open, access to the Main Street entrance will not be available from the north and west parking lots without walking around the block. Parking along Main Street will remain open, and anyone parking in the west parking lot can enter the Library through the Youth entrance.
  • Book and media donations: If you have books or media to donate, you will still be able to access the donation door, next to the garage doors. Please be careful and remain a safe distance from construction equipment that may need to cross the area.
