DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a novel movie night at the library! Join us for a cinematic adventure featuring libraries on the big screen—grab some popcorn and a drink\, then settle in for a good movie. \nCome for the films\, stay for the overdue puns! \nIn March we will be showing The Public\, a 2018 fictional film which takes place inside a Cincinnati public library during an usually cold arctic blast. \n\n\n\n\nn “the public” an unusually bitter Arctic blast has made its way to downtown Cincinnati and the front doors of the public library where the action of the film takes place. The story revolves around the library patrons\, many of whom are homeless\, mentally ill and marginalized\, as well as an exhausted and overwhelmed staff of librarians who often build emotional connections and a sense of obligation to care for those regular patrons. At odds with library officials over how to handle the extreme weather event\, the Patrons turn the building into a homeless shelter for the night by staging an “Occupy” sit in. What begins as an act of civil disobedience becomes a stand off with police and a rush-to-judgment media constantly speculating about what’s really happening. This David versus Goliath story tackles some of our nation’s most challenging issues\, homelessness and mental illness and sets the drama inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of Cincinnati’s public libraries soon becomes an unlikely shelter for homeless people seeking warmth from the city’s cold weather. All hell breaks loose as the homeless begin barricading themselves in the library and the police are called in to try and defuse the situation. Writer and director Emilio Estevez’s carefully-crafted dramedy focuses on the story of two librarians\, a crisis negotiator\, a district attorney and the leader of the homeless as they become tied up in this act of civil disobedience.

Michelangelo Merisi Da Caravaggio\, is considered to have helped usher in the Baroque period with his intense theatrical paintings using real people as reference models. Much to the horror of his critics and rivals\, he often used ordinary working people without “perfect” characteristics as models for his saints and put them in noticeably contemporary settings. Caravaggio himself was as controversial as his art. He was known as arrogant\, rebellious\, and a murderer. We will dive into all of that and the influence his work had on young artists of the time period during this Art Talk. \nStudents from Hutchinson Community College will lead our discussion with a presentation followed by a short art workshop\, giving you an immersive experience of the Baroque period. DESCRIPTION:This workshop will cover the necessary information to perform basic 3D printing jobs. Successfully completing it makes allows you to use our 3D printing equipment\, and you will make a small 3D print at no cost.\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou will need\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA current Hutchinson Public Library Card that belongs to you. You must bring this to the workshop.\nBasic computer and reading skills.\nA second visit to pick up your completed 3D print\n\n\nPlease remember:\n\nThere is no cost to attend.\nThere is not an age limit\, but you should be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions\, as well as use a desktop computer.\nNo previous experience is required.\nSeats are limited\, but this workshop will be offered regularly.
