This list features ebook titles from a variety of sources free for download. Some of the sources listed here are publisher sites that offer a selection of free titles along with a wider variety of titles for purchase. Other sources listed here are made up of primarily public domain works (think "classics"). These lists will evolve and change as the ebook landscape evolves and changes, so check back frequently.

Primarily public domain sources:
Bookboon.com - Provides free textbooks on a variety of subjects plus a section of travel guides.
ManyBooks.net - An ebook library that takes books from Project Gutenberg and other free sources and converts them on demand to the particular format desired.
NCBI Bookshelf - This is one of the many National Library of Medicine projects that archives books and other medical information. It is managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
Open Library - This is a link to the interface for the Internet Archive. The Internet Archive is collecting and digitizing published works and has a vast collection of items to borrow. You can borrow up to 5 items for up to 2 weeks at a time.
Perseus Digital Library - Created at Tufts University, this is primarily a collection of primary and secondary sources for the study of ancient Greece and Rome. Other subject areas include Germanic materials, Arabic materials, and 19th century American materials.
Project Gutenberg - A volunteer effort to digitize cultural works and to encourage the creation and distribution of ebooks. Currently offers over 36,000 ebooks.
Publishers and vendors offering free ebooks:
Baen Free Library - Publisher Baen Books created a collection of free science fiction ebooks for their readers. Other areas of the Baen site offer ebook downloads for sale.
FeedBooks - Easy-to-browse public domain ebook collection with many recent titles. This site also has a book store from which to purchase ebooks.
Sony Reader Store - The Sony store offers a wide selection of free ebooks in many fiction and non-fiction categories.
Amazon Kindle Store - includes a large number of free titles in many subject areas. Use the menu on the left side of the Amazon page to navigate.
