Account Help

When we mention "library account" or "account" at HPL, we are talking about the account created for you on our automated library system. This system, called Polaris, keeps track of what everyone has checked out, monitors due dates, hold requests, and much more.

Library patrons have access to some of the functions of their Polaris account. To log in to your account, click the link below and then click the "My Account" drop-down menu to log in:

What follows are answers to some common questions. If you don't find what you need here, please call our Circulation Department staff at (620)663-5441 ext. 116.

How do I get a library Card?

In order to obtain a library card, an individual must complete a Registration Application and present proof of address and a photo I. D. Acceptable forms of I. D. are: valid driver's license, student I. D., check, letter or bill received at the given address and postmarked. Children under twelve must obtain a parent's or legal guardian's signature on their application. A parent or guardian may present their I. D. as proof of a child's address.

To fill out an application for a card click here, then print the application, fill it out and bring it into the library.

What is my username and password?

Enter your entire 14-digit library card number without spaces. Your password is the last four digits of your telephone number (the number we have on file at the library).

What functions can I perform in my account?

You can place holds (requests) for books that are not checked in. You can see what items you have out, renew items you have out, and see if you have any fines. You can review your contact info and request changes. You can switch on 'reading history" if you want the system to keep track of what you've read. You can also change your password. If you do change your password, be aware that we cannot retrieve that information so if you forget, you will have to contact us to reset it.
