Hutchinson Public Library To Close During Day For Drilling And Elevator Repair

Will be open after 5 pm for evening hours.

Hutchinson Public Library will close during daytime hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, beginning Monday, November 13, and will return to full day hours when drilling to the elevator shaft is complete.  The daytime hours closing is expected Monday through Wednesday, but could very well last through Thursday or even Friday.  The library will be open for evening hours, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and all evening programs or meetings will run as scheduled.

Otis Elevator Repair began work on clearing and repairing a hydraulic oil leak, and soon learned the elevator’s piston had a collapsed shaft.   In order to repair the shaft, it must be drilled out again and a new casing put in place.  “Normally, this kind of work is done before a building is built,” said Gregg Wamsley, Hutchinson Public Library Director.  “A drilling rig will have to be built inside the elevator shaft and then dismantled once the drilling is complete.  Otis Elevator Repair has stressed that this process will be extremely loud, and a major disruption to patrons and staff.”  ADCO Elevator Drilling LLC will be performing the work.

Some library services will available in the evening hours.  Patrons can pick up reserved books from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.   The 24-hour drop box behind the library is also open for patrons to drop off books, and library staff will check the drop box daily.  Storytimes will be cancelled for the week, and any fines incurred during the dates the library is closed will be suspended.

Library staff ask that patrons continue to check the library website, www.hutchpl.org, and facebook page, www.facebook.com/hutchpl, for the latest information of when library will return to normal daytime hours.
