Tutoring

Individual Tutoring

The Hutchinson Public Library provides staff and volunteers to help adults improve their math, reading, writing, speaking and language skills. The State of Kansas defines Adult Education Services as those provided to residents who are at least 16 years old and no longer enrolled in school. The library follows this guideline as to whom we consider potential students.

Information for Potential Tutors
The relationship between the tutor and client is more important than how knowledgeable a tutor is in the given subject area. Adult Education Services tutors come from all walks of life. Individuals who are patient and committed to helping a client accomplish his or her educational goals become successful tutors.

For more information about these services, please contact the library at 620-663-5441 x. 143  or

Adult Literacy and Education Resources

The library collection and website contain resources that can assist with preparing for many standardized tests. These include the ACT, PSAT, CLEP, SAT, DSST and several high school exit examinations. Resources are also available for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT and Miller Analogies (MAT).  Resources for these tests can be found in the Gale Testing and Education Center.

Resources for field specific tests such as Law Enforcement, Fire Science and Nursing are available online and in library databases. Often field specific aptitude testing materials are available through the trade organization that sponsors the test.  Assistance with taking the Work Keys Test is available by calling the Kansas Works Center at 620-665-3559. Library staff will be happy to assist patrons with locating any materials referenced above or others that might be a part of the library collection.
